Top Romanian hacker no more than a script kiddy

A young Romanian hacker has been caught by Bucharest security provider BitDefender, and gave everyone a bit of a surprise. Romanian youth Calin Mateias had been hacking the online ordering system of mega distributor Ingram Micro for over four years, and made over 2,000 illegal orders with his system. However, the fraud was not a computer genius, nor a dangerous cyber terrorist – he was just a "script-kiddy," using pre-built hacking scripts to break the system. Mihai Radu of BitDefender reckons he definitely has an idea or two about how to use computers, but is most certainly no genius. "He did display social-engineering abilities by managing to avoid being apprehended for such a long time," he said. Calin could possibly face up to 15 years in prison, coupled with large fines if convicted by a Romanian court, but the sentence is not set in stone – depending on exactly how lenient the judges are.
