Interpol to track down hacker
Interpol has been called in to help track down an Asian computer programmer, who managed to steal thousands of dinars from the supermarket where he worked before quitting the company.
A Public Prosecution spokesman said he scammed over 48,000 Bahraini Dinar out of the company with the help of two colleagues after inventing a computer programme that he used to hack into the main computer.
The programme lowered the prices of items that had already been paid for in the system, which meant that he could pocket the surplus.
When he left the company he told his replacement about the illegal scheme and the replacement agreed to help them, according to the spokesman.
They were finally caught when the head cashier moved departments and his replacement, who was also told about the scam, notified the police.
The programmers two accomplices have confessed to the crime and have so far returned 4,400 Bahraini Dinar.
Both have been detained for seven days.
