Watford council takes on remote security system

Watford Borough Council has implemented a secure server system to allow its employees to work remotely.

The council wants workers to be able to access key applications, such as email, file directories and bespoke customer management systems from outside the office as a way to increase productivity and efficiency.

The Appgate-supplied mobile access system represents a significant part of the council's business continuity plans, says Watford Borough's head of business information systems Lieven Hermans.

'The council has the reassurance that should employees be unable to come into the council offices, services will nevertheless continue to run as normal,' he said.

'Flexible working also improves choice and working options for council employees whilst boosting productivity and helping us to achieve maximum efficiency and best value as set out in the Gershon efficiency agenda.'
