Back Up Your Data On Removable Disk Drives
To be prepared for any disaster, a company must frequently back up its critical data. To be prepared for a disaster that wipes out the entire data center, the backups of the critical data (or at least copies of the backups) should be stored offsite, a safe distance from the original data so they aren't both destroyed in the same disaster.
Traditionally, most companies have relied on tape as the media of choice for backing up data. However, tape has its own issues in terms of the stability and integrity of the data, especially when stored for long periods of time, and disk drives are much larger and more affordable now.
Today, removable disk drives offer an alternative that is faster, more reliable, and capable of higher data capacities than tape backup systems. Ben Ginster, channel marketing manager for Idealstor Ejectable Disk Backup, says, "The Idealstor 750GB removable drive is designed to be used in place of tape for offsite backup and storage. Rather than administrators having to buy a NAS or disk backup appliance and then purchase tape to store their data offsite, they can simply purchase an Idealstor Backup Appliance or FrankeNAS storage system and run their backups directly to the removable 750GB disks. Each disk is Plug-and-Play and comes with an Idealstor caddy and protective storage box, which provides added protection for the disk when being transported."
With 750GB drives and appliances capable of holding up to eight removable Idealstor drives, the Idealstor solution can back up almost 6TB of data. The drives are Serial ATA and have max transfer rates of up to 300Mbps. They also come with a five-year warranty.
