Storage the key to business continuity, expo told
Having sufficient amounts of storage space is a central requirement in the field of business continuity, visitors to the Storage Expo in London this week have been advised.
Delegates were told about how the application of storage technology had enhanced or even created from scratch the ability of some companies to recover from emergencies more easily and keep running in difficult circumstances, ITpro.co.uk reports.
An example of this was explained by the IT manager for the Wildfowl and Wetland Trust, Ian Hood, who said that the application of a centralised storage network to the organisation's broadband system had created a business continuity system where none had existed previously.
He stated: "Disaster recovery is the IT bit of our business continuity strategy.
The expo has been largely pitched at mid-size firms which lack expertise in this field, itweek.co.uk reported earlier this week.
Tony Lock, a programme director at research firm Freeform Dynamics, said: "Many visitors are IT professionals from mid-size firms who are not specialists in storage management and who go along to see what is going on the industry."
Held in London's Olympia, organisers hoped to attract more IT professionals than the 2006 event, when around 4,700 attended.
