Radware Optimizes VoIP Network Reliability for Virtual PBX
Radware, a provider of integrated application delivery solutions for business-smart networking, has announced that Virtual PBX, a developer and supplier of hosted PBX services, has deployed its AppDirector.
Virtual PBX has deployed AppDirector, Radware’s application delivery controllers (ADC), to “scale its Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) infrastructure and build a fault tolerant session initiation protocol (SIP) proxy servers."
Virtual PBX’s officials said that their company looked to Radware to assist in building fault-tolerant SIP proxies and RADIUS servers, along with allowing the scaling of the number of SIP/TDM gateways that would process the traffic to accommodate growth.
Stephen Lange, CTO at Virtual PBX, said that Radware's AppDirectors were the only load balancers that his company found that could manage any kind of IP traffic.
He also said that the fact that the company could deploy AppDirector in a fault-tolerant active-standby pair was a deciding factor.
“We worked with other providers who promised that their products could load balance SIP and RTP traffic, but they did not work to our satisfaction,” he said.
Radware’s officials said that AppDirector has enabled Virtual PBX to deploy multiple independent SIP proxy servers that all “talk” to the same SQL back-end datastore, without the need to pay any additional licensing fees.
AppDirector, officials explained, enables Virtual PBX the flexibility to move calls throughout its network using IP; enabling the company to easily bring new media services online, while presenting a single IP end-point that any carrier could drive calls to.
Moreover, to ensure that the new media services would integrate with its network, AppDirector allowed Virtual PBX to take servers and gateways down to perform interoperability testing or maintenance without hindering service or causing outages to its clients.
Additionally, officials said that AppDirector has enabled the company to build distributed farms of servers and gateways, where capacity is added by bringing in new servers or gateways.
“By working closely with Virtual PBX, we began to understand their business-critical pain points, and how best to overcome these challenges—including their need for greater capacity,” said Bob Simpson, vice president of Service Provider Business at Radware.
