Data Loss Prevention Educational Website Launches
ArcSight , Blue Coat Systems , Reconnex, Trend Micro, and Utimaco, today announced the launch of DLP In Depth (www.dlpindepth.org), an educational site for information on data loss prevention. The site offers news, case studies, whitepapers and forums dedicated to discussing data loss issues and best practices.
Today's security professionals face a daunting challenge: protecting the organization's most valuable asset -- information. As organizations invest in upgrading business systems and processes to exchange critical information between customers, partners, and employees in real-time, the increase in the frequency and severity of data breaches brings IT security concerns to the forefront.
According to analyst firms, the majority of all leaks are the result of unintentional information lost from employees and partners. According to research by The Ponemon Institute, the average information leak costs organizations approximately $182 per record, averaging roughly $4,800,000 per breach in total. The high cost of a breach can have a profound effect on organizations' market presence, competitive advantage and bottom line. The challenge is that many products can protect against data loss, from simple epoxy glue to more sophisticated security solutions, but organizations still struggle with knowledge of how to protect themselves.
"Given the debilitating costs incurred through data loss, and the high rate of unintentional loss, organizations are seeking answers to questions about how to protect their organizations' sensitive information," said Faizel Lakhani, vice president of products at Reconnex. "We are proud to be combining efforts with leading experts to create a mechanism for collaboration and interaction to aid organizations to protect against data loss."
DLP In Depth will offer an online network of educational resources about data loss. Visitors can access the site to read whitepapers, best practice policies, security blogs and up-to-the-minute news on data loss prevention. In addition to informational resources, users can submit content via online forums and chat with experts and security teams concerned with data loss prevention. Registration and access to all areas of the site is free and can be found online at www.dlpindepth.org.
