Encryption isn't enough to keep data safe on stolen laptops
Laptops are easily mislaid. Most of these laptops had security precautions such as passwords and encryption in place. The fact is that this level of security is not enough.
It is the data on a laptop that is valuable, and so therefore, being able to keep this safe and out of the wrong hands is of the utmost importance.
William Pound, VP International Operations, Absolute Software, commented: "The lack of security precautions taken to secure important data is shocking. There needs to be accountability and processes in place to ensure that data taken from a company - whether it is on a laptop, PDA or USB stick - is secured in such a way that there is no risk of it getting into the wrong hands."

Absolute Software, the provider of ComputraceOne, can delete data and confidential files on stolen laptops remotely and recovers thousands of missing devices across the globe annually by working with the local police. Its customers include the Swiss Football Association, De Beers, and numerous financial institutions and government departments.
The company has tracked and recovered laptops to locations including Argentina, India and Saudi Arabia. It also has remotely deleted hundreds of thousands of documents contained on stolen computers, sparing companies the hefty fines that unprotected organisations have incurred.
