Hacker fleeces websurfers for vacation cash
A 29-year-old man who lives on a disability pension allegedly stole from Internet shoppers to finance his fancy vacations, a report said Thursday. The alleged hacker siphoned about 1.5mil koruna (US$57,000 or RM216,600) from Internet users in the United States, Taiwan and Europe who thought they were buying goods and services online, Brno police spokeswoman Jana Sipkova told the Novinky news agency. The self-taught computer whiz clicked his way through crimes between May 2002 and October 2003. He allegedly used the stolen money for several vacations in Iceland, police said. But now he faces up to eight years in prison. Police discovered the hacking operation after visiting the man's Brno home while investigating him on weapons and forgery charges.
