Rockline Implements Mimecast's SaaS-based E-mail Management Platform

While e-mail has become the primary communication and collaborative platform at many organizations, the holistic e-mail management approach is just now moving into the forefront. Because organizations are increasingly swamped from various policy, regulatory, continuity and security requirements, the demand to manage these aspects can be high.

With these factors firmly in mind, paper products manufacturer Rockline Industries today announced it has implemented Mimecast's unified service offering at a quarter of the cost of deploying multiple on-premise point solutions and appliances.

The Newtown, Massachusetts-based Mimecast offers SaaS-based e-mail archiving, continuity and security.

"Mimecast had everything we needed, and more, all in one place and the model is so straightforward and simple,” said Perry Fritz, Rockline Industries enterprise operations manager. We pay one price per user per month, and email management is completely covered."

A platform such as Mimecast’s offers companies protection against litigation-related discovery requests and safeguards their networks against security breaches through the implementation of e-mail management solutions.

For their part, Rockline selected Mimecast in order to consolidate e-mail management with a single solution designed to reduce mounting IT costs and management.

"To cover all our e-mail management issues, it looked as if we would need to purchase at least four point solutions," said Fritz. "That meant dealing with four different vendors, purchasing multiple servers, trying to integrate all the solutions, and maintaining them. We didn't have the staff or budget to handle it all."

To meet Rockline's multiple requirements, Mimecast provided an end-to-end solution for unified e-mail management in the cloud - an SaaS-based service that covers e-mail archiving, eDiscovery, continuity, security and policy management.

Mimecast has helped more than 2,000 companies around the world to replace multiple, on-premise point solutions with its platform.

Frtiz said before committing to Mimecast, Rockline conducted a thorough evaluation of alternatives, including on-premise software and appliances.

"When we compared the cost of Mimecast to the purchase and maintenance of the multiple point solutions required to cover all of the features we wanted, we found that Mimecast would be approximately one-quarter the cost, and with far fewer headaches because it ties in directly with our existing Outlook environment. Some of the features we wanted in addition to email archiving - such as e-mail continuity - weren't offered by any other vendor, period. In the end, Mimecast beat everyone else hands down."

According to research firm Gartner, “E-mail is evolving in numerous ways: users are demanding more mobility options, provisioning models are tipping toward hosted services, lawyers and record managers are asking for clearer and more efficient retention services, security personnel want greater control over outbound content, architects are pushing for more centralized services, new vendors are entering the market, and users are struggling with e-mail overload.”

Mimecast also today announced significant growth and momentum in their expanding global business.

Revenue in the first nine months of fiscal 2009 grew by 318 percent compared to the same period in the previous year, helped by the addition of nearly 1,000 new customers in the preceding 12 months, according to the company.

The average number of users per customer also jumped significantly allowing the company to add nearly 200,000 new users in the 12 months to Dec 31 2008.

"Mimecast's growth is representative of both a shift in buying behavior towards Software-as-a-Service applications and the value of a unified approach to solving the diverse problems of email management," said Peter Bauer, Chief Executive Officer of Mimecast.
