AppGate Security Server 8.2 Released

AppGate Network Security launches version 8.2 of its Security Server, one security system for all access.
Among the features being released in this new version is the possibility for the administrator to assign a remotely connected client a fixed IP address on the corporate network, an address dedicated to a user and independent of the user’s location. This allows application servers and other equipment on the internal network to use and to some degree even trust the user’s IP address for various purposes since the AppGate server is in control of the address used on the local network.
Another feature is a new read–only role for AppGate administrators which is targeted and well suited for help desk functionality at a company where people need access to log files to solve various user- related problems. The read-only role prevents these limited administrators from changing any access rules or to add or remove users.
“Version 8.2 of the AppGate security server means improved possibilities, fixed IP tunnelling addresses and read only administrator access are two features simplifying the life for systems administrators”, said Tomas Olovsson, CTO at AppGate.
Among the new and improved features in version 8.2 are:
• Fixed IP-tunnelling addresses for users
• Read only admin access
• Signed IP-tunnelling driver for Windows Vista
As always the new version 8.2 builds on existing proven functionality in the AppGate Security Server such as:
• Application Layer Firewall
• Mobile & Fixed VPN
• Granular & Role based Access control
• End-point Security Control
