The network application flexibility included in the 3e525A-3 permits full wireless network implementation with a single type of unit. In the access point or gateway mode, the 3e525A-3 establishes wireless links to laptops, PDAs and other devices incorporating 802.11b wireless networking communications, with a wireless link speed of up to 11 Mbps.

For use in repeater or bridging applications, the 3e525A-3 includes IEEE 802.11g wireless signaling for link speeds up to 54 Mbps. This allows the 802.11g backbone to accommodate the data from several 802.11b systems.

In addition, the USB port can be used for a networked printer.

The 3e525A-3 can be used with a variety of security measures enabled or “wide open”. For less sensitive applications, the legacy WEP encryption algorithm system can be used. For Federal Government or military applications, AES or 3DES encryption is available. The AES and 3DES algorithms have been approved by the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST). NIST’s FIPS 140-2 standard requires their use on new U.S. Government wireless installations. AES/3DES are available for both access point / gateway implementations as well as bridging. Additional security is available by adding the 3e-030 Security Server software (sold separately) to establish a system with dynamic key exchange.

Configuration and monitoring of the WLAN network is easy with the 3e525A-3’s GUI WEB interface. The management system includes the ability to detect rogue access points, prohibit unauthorized access for additional security, and monitor system use with many detailed reports.

The 3e525A-3 operates on Power over ethernet, eliminating the need for expensive and unsightly power cabling.
