AppGate USB Client
The AppGate USB client is designed to be used on personal computers when connecting to an AppGate Security Server. It is a client that does not rely on, or use, the ordinary operating system on the machine. It will execute in a secure and trusted environment regardless of the configuration of the original operating system on the computer. In addition, it does not access or store any data on the local hard disks on the PC and will therefore not leave any traces or residues when the session to the AppGate server is closed.

The client software is delivered on a USB stick which contains all components necessary to run the AppGate client securely on almost any personal computer. The ordinary operating system residing on the computers hard disk is not used, which means that it is possible to start the AppGate client in a clean environment without being dependent on the configuration of the original operating system and its installed applications.
In addition, neither the AppGate client nor the applications executed during the session will store any data on the computers hard disks. The disks are never touched during a session which means that no residual data will be present after the user closes down the session. The owner of the original system will also know for sure that nothing has been touched on the PC. This means that:
- The user does not have to worry about the configuration of the personal computer.
- All communication to the AppGate server is encrypted and done securely. The application owner knows that the client executes in a safe and secure environment.
- When the user starts the system on the USB stick, an AppGate client is automatically launched and the user can log into the remote system.
- The user interface should be familiar to all current users of AppGate systems.
- All applications necessary for the end-user are pre-installed on the USB stick.
- The client is safe from all kinds of malware, spyware or viruses that may be present in the original system on the client computer.
- The client will not leave any residual data or traces on the computer's hard disks.
Examples of usage
There are many use cases for this client. When a user needs access to data or applications from an untrusted computer, this client is an ideal companion. The users will be assured that no traces of their sessions are stored on the system and they don't have to trust or rely on the computer they use.
Examples include, but are not limited, to:
- Business people who need to access corporate information when travelling, for example from a customer's computer.
- External consultants or contractors who want to use their own computers for access.
- Temporary project groups who need to access common resources from different computers around the world. USB clients can be distributed to them at the beginning of the project and be returned when it is completed.
- Medical doctors who need to access sensitive patient data from a home computer or any other non-trusted computer.The alternative may be to travel to work to access the data, but this client guarantees that nothing will be stored locally when the user closes down the session.
- Home users who share computers with other persons at home and where the status of the computer is unknown. These computers can be trusted provided they use the AppGate USB client for the access.
The client is ideal in all situations where it is important that the computer being used is free from spyware and infections and that no traces are left on the computer after the session has been closed.
